Introducing Widgets — and Cane Kennel, a lock for your account

Monitoring tells you when something breaks. But there's a different failure that no uptime check will catch: someone getting into your account. A leaked password, a hijacked session, a laptop left unlocked — and suddenly whoever's in there can delete every monitor, export your data, and spin up API keys, all from a session that's already logged in. Your monitoring is working perfectly while your account gets emptied.

Today we're shipping two things to close that gap: a widgets platform, and its first widget — Cane Kennel.

Widgets

Widgets are optional capabilities you add to your account when you need them, and leave off when you don't. You'll find them in the new Widgets menu in the sidebar: browse what's available, add one in a click, manage it from Settings. Cane Kennel is the first. More are coming — this is the foundation they'll all sit on.

Kennel is a security enclosure for your account. Arm it, and the destructive or data-pulling actions — deleting monitors, exporting data, creating API keys, changing billing — require a fresh authentication check, even from a session that's already logged in.

That last part is the whole point. Most protections assume the attacker is outside the door. Kennel assumes they might already be inside — because that's what a stolen session is — and puts a second lock on the actions that actually cause damage. A hijacked account can't quietly delete your monitors or walk off with your data, because it can't get past the check.

Built so you're never locked out

A lock this strong raises an obvious risk: what if you lose the key? We designed Kennel specifically so that can't brick your account.

When you arm Kennel you get a one-time key, shown once, for routine removal. If you lose it, you can still remove Kennel with a code from your authenticator app. And if you've lost your phone too, your 2FA recovery codes work as the final backstop. Three independent ways for the real owner to get in — and none for someone who's only stolen a session. That's why Kennel requires two-factor authentication before it can be armed: it guarantees the safety net always exists.

Why this matters at our price

Account-level protection like this — re-authentication on sensitive actions, break-glass recovery — is normally something you find in enterprise plans that start around €49 a month. Kennel is part of CaneCron. The same tool that watches your sites and cron jobs now guards the account itself, without an enterprise invoice.
